There are hundreds of Super Mario ROM hacks out there with no problem (including “Super Mario Odyssey 64,” after wide publicity). For those wondering if Nintendo's dreaded legal machine will get involved, who knows. Like Super Mario Odyssey 64, this is a ROM hack, meaning it alters the original ROM and is played on an emulator.
It, too, is the work of Kaze Emanuar, a Super Mario 64 modder nonpareil who also delivered a Super Mario Odyssey hat mod for Super Mario 64 two weeks after the game was revealed at E3. Hot on the heels of “Mega Maker” comes another creation toolkit, Super Mario 64 Maker, that lets users develop custom Super Mario 64 levels using all of the assets and AI from the 1997 classic.
